Acadia National Park on Mount Desert Island in Maine

Pretty Marsh Picnic Area

On the western “quiet side” of Mount Desert Island on Acadia National Park land, is a beautiful little place known as the Pretty Marsh Picnic Area. Densely forested and on the shore facing Bartlett Island and Western Bay, it has picnic tables spaced apart enough to give a secluded experience.

Several spots are thickly carpeted with moss and new growth while the elder evergreens stand tall and proud. The scent and allure of the slapping ocean waves are close by while the sounds are of whispering pines, chipmunks, and birds on wing are heard overhead.

Any cooking must be done on the park-provided grills. A simple bathroom facility is available on the premises.

Pretty Marsh Picnic Area is approximately 4 miles southwest of Somesville on the western loop of Route 102. A short winding road will take you there. This is a seasonal location so it is not open during the winter.
